The Adoption Process

From first email to bringing your puppy home let us walk you through what you can expect as you wait for your baby.

Here you will find the process that most people experience here at Southern Paws. Not all adoptions are the same so some details may vary.

Before you decide to adopt

The process of adopting a puppy from Southen Paws begins with communication. Email and Text are the most efficient ways of contacting us. Initial communication expresses interest in one or more of our babies and if possible which gender. This initial email or text usually leads to further inquiries on if we have any available puppies, which of our mothers are expecting, cost, etc. When you have decided that a Southern Paws puppy is right for your family, you will want to place a deposit for your boy or girl. Puppies are chosen in order of deposits received. Throughout this process I will keep you informed as to how many males and females have been reserved ahead of you. When it is your turn to choose you will be able to choose from the remaining available puppies from any litter.

Newborn days

This is the part where it begins to feel real. You will be notified when a mama has had her babies and as the weeks go by we’ll post pictures once a week so that you can watch them grow. Puppies are chosen in order of deposits received. Know that this can often take some time as the puppies change quickly in appearance from week to week. This means that puppies usually are not chosen until they are approximately 5 weeks old. When everyone has chosen their puppy then the process of arranging a time and place to meet your puppy will begin. Most puppies are ready to leave Southern Paws at 7 weeks of age when they are eating dry food and drinking well on their own.

Receiving your puppy

The day to meet your puppy is finally here! When we meet at the pre-determined place and time, you will be given your puppy and a Southern Paws tote bag containing a bag of starter food, a bottle of water, pee pads, toys, and a blanket. We will also go over a packet of paper work with you before you leave. This packet contains a contract, receipt, records of your puppies growth, registration application papers, your puppies shot record, what you need to take to your vet, and other helpful information.
