A note from Donna, my dear friend and previous owner of Southern Paws Bichons:

“With a VERY heavy heart, I have moved to Seattle. My youngest son and his family live here. I need several orthopedic surgeries and they will care for me while I’m recovering. My plans are to make this a permanent move.

I have to thank everyone that I have met through this business. “Dog people” are SPECIAL people. I am so blessed to have met all of you. You have truly enriched my life!! Please don’t hesitate to call for help with any problems or just to chat. If you want my number, please email Vicky for it. I will also send everyone who has bought a bichon from me my new email address.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I want to thank all of my helpers, Marlene, Makayla, Elaine, and Becky. Without their help and their love for bichons, I would not have been able to do this work. They spoiled them, loved them, and cared for them like they were their own children. What more could I ask for.

I have left Southern Paws Bichons in wonderful hands!!! A WONDERFUL breeder friend, Vicky Richard, from Lake Charles, has purchased this website along with purchasing my precious Samba, Claude, Lilah, Rae Rae, and Heidi from  me. They are all wonderful bichons!! Vicky is very reputable, very caring, and takes care of her babies like we did. I will be helping her for a couple of months during the transition. You will get a wonderful puppy from her. I would not have allowed anyone to take the Southern Paws name unless I was completely certain that they would operate as we have through the years with integrity and love.

The Bichon is the most loving, charming, and affectionate dog we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are easy to live with, non-shedding, and excellent with other pets and children.

We are a kennel who just LOVES bichons.

My name is Vicky Richard. I am married to my husband, David, and we have three children aged 33, 31, and 28. It is likely when you meet your new baby that one of them will be with me.

What you see represented here today is a lifetime of loving animals. Over the years we’ve had dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish, hampsters, reptiles, you name it. In 2004 we were given our poodle, Jolie Belle. Jolie Belle led to our poodle Beau and thus began our journey. In the early years of breeding we had poodles, pekingese, shihtzus,  and our first bichon, Isabella.

As the years progressed, I fell more in love with our bichons. We retired our other breeds and began solely breeding purebred bichons and the occasional bichon-poos.

I have made many friends in this community. Notably, Donna Fontenot, the original owner of Southern Paws Bichons. When Donna retired in 2010, I was honored to adopt her kennel name and her bichons, Samba, Claude, Lilah, Rae Rae, and Heidi. Although all retired now, Southern Paws Bichons is still home to some of their children and grandchildren.

We believe that superior parents, high quality nutrition, and a clean environment are essential for the very best puppies in health and temperament. We have selected our adult bichons very carefully and strive to produce the highest quality puppies.

Our puppies can be registered with CKC which is Continental Kennel Club and come with a 1 year health guarantee against any genetic problems. Each puppy will come to you vet checked and will be current with their shots and worming at point of sale. Learn more under our “Additional Info” tab.

Our puppies receive love and attention at a very early age. This helps to produce a well socialized, loving disposition. We love working and playing with our bichon family daily.
